Arrested IS suspect was set for another attack

An Islamic State (IS) member who was arrested for suspected links with the suicide bomber who attacked Istanbul's lively Istiklal street was preparing for a similar attack in Istanbul, Ankara and Antalya, according to Gaziantep Governorate.

Suicide bomber Mehmet Öztürk has blown himself up in the heart of Taksim where 4 people were killed and 36 were injured. Erkan Ç. was arrested for alleged links with the bomber in Gaziantep.

Gaziantep Governorate made a written statement on March 25, underscoring a tip-off that the suspect Erkan Ç. was set to attack UN buildings, cafes owned by Kurdish citizens, security officers and tourists in Turkey.

Erkan Ç. was in contact with suicide bomber Öztürk, the statement of the Governorate explained.
